How visible gamer tags become source-labeled results.
Gamer tag OCR is not one screenshot followed by a web search. A useful scanner needs a narrow capture area, repeated text agreement, name-specific filtering, and a supported source that returns a plausible public profile.
1. Capture only name-bearing screen regions
A whole game frame contains weapon labels, scores, map text, damage numbers, subtitles, menus, and promotional messages. GGSight uses user-selected scan zones around locations that normally contain player names, such as a kill feed, lobby roster, scoreboard, or spectating banner. Smaller zones reduce noise and speed up each OCR pass.
2. Read several frames instead of trusting one
Motion blur, video compression, transparency, and HUD animation can change a character from one frame to the next. The scanner compares repeated reads and waits for enough agreement before treating text as a candidate gamer tag. A single uncertain frame should not trigger a profile lookup.
3. Normalize gamer-tag characters carefully
Real names may contain letters, numbers, underscores, periods, clan prefixes, and creator markers such as TTV, YT, or KICK. OCR can confuse similar shapes such as zero and O, one and I, or five and S. Normalization preserves plausible name characters while rejecting standalone scores, percentages, menu labels, and other screen text that does not resemble a gamer tag.
4. Ask supported public sources
After stabilization, GGSight sends the candidate gamer tag and game context to the configured verification service. Twitch, YouTube, Kick, connected TikTok claims, and other supported providers are checked through their available official interfaces. A provider that is unavailable or returns no account is not labeled as a match.
5. Score evidence without claiming legal identity
An exact public handle, a creator-style alias, matching live game category, repeat encounter, and OCR quality can contribute different amounts of evidence. A matching username is still not proof that two people are the same person. Results remain profile candidates that players can review and correct.
6. Alert only after the configured gates pass
Raw OCR candidates belong in diagnostics, not desktop notifications. The live feed and popup use the same source-confirmed rule and duplicate cooldown. This keeps random words, numeric fragments, and unsupported names from becoming distracting alerts during play.
What improves OCR accuracy?
Use a sharp 1080p or higher source, keep HUD scale readable, avoid resizing a compressed stream, draw zones tightly around names, and test the exact game window before a match. Capture-card previews and Remote Play can work when the source remains readable.
What causes false reads?
Tiny fonts, rapid camera motion, low bitrate video, overlapping effects, translucent HUD panels, unusual Unicode characters, decorative clan tags, and zones that include score columns can all reduce confidence.
Why are some names missing?
The scanner may reject the OCR read, fail to reach stable agreement, find no supported public account, or keep a low-confidence alias in review. Missing a result is preferable to presenting an unrelated profile as confirmed.
What should testers report?
Include the game, resolution, capture method, scan-zone name, visible gamer tag, OCR output, and whether the issue happened during capture, lookup, or notification. Do not send private account credentials.
